About NYC / ADV

New York City Adventure Cycling Club, NYC/ADV, is a group of like-minded individuals passionate about bicycles, traveling, and the outdoors. These passions coverage into adventures by bike. Our group organizes events through our Meetup group that include group rides, overnight trips, classes, socials, etc.

Who can join

Any and all are welcome to join and attend!

Our rides range from difficult to very difficult. Difficult, for those who are novice or are starting out and very difficult, for those who really like a challenge. Traveling by bike is a physical activity and can be inherently difficult at times. Don’t let this dissuade you. We try our best to offer a range of rides and routes suitable for those who are starting out to those with who want to do a little bit more. Bicycle touring isn’t racing. It’s not about the speed or distance, it is about enjoying the journey.

Our organization is a group of people and our event organizers are not guides. As such they reserve the right to deny any person from participating in a ride for any safety reason (see disclaimer below). We would love to have you along, but we want to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time Our social mixer is every third Thursday of the month and is a perfect place to meet our members and ask questions. Check out our Meetup group to find out when our next social is.

Disclaimer

TL;DR

Long story short, if you choose to join for rides, organizers are not responsible for participants health, safety, and/or well being.

I acknowledge that by attending any and all events, I am assuming all risks, and agreeing to indemnify, not sue and release from liability the organizers of the New York City Adventure Cycling Club (NYC/ADV), their respective agents, volunteers, members, permit holders, sponsors, promoters and affiliates (collectively “released parties”), and that I am giving up substantial legal rights. I am aware that the activities are hazardous and that I could be seriously injured or even killed. I am voluntarily participating in these activities with knowledge of the danger involved, and agree to assume any and all risks of bodily injury, death or property damage, whether those risks are known or unknown.

In consideration of my entry and of my own free will, I, for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators, forever waive, release, and give up any claims, demands, liability damages, costs, and expenses of any kind whatsoever, including personal injuries to me or wrongful death, against released parties, caused in whole or in part by my or others negligence or other fault of the parties or persons. I hereby waive release discharge hold harmless and agree to indemnify and not sue the sponsors of events, the organizers and any promoting organizations, property owners, law enforcement agencies, all public entities, special districts, and properties and their respective agents, officials, through or by which the events will be held (collectively, the “released parties”) from any and all rights and claims including claims arising from the released parties’ own negligence. I am aware of the potential natural or unnatural hazards and no medical insurance is provided by NYC Adventure Cycling Club or organizers. As an express condition of being permitted to participate in the events, I represent that I have observed tours of the type I now seek to participate in and have had the opportunity to inspect the tour itinerary. Whether or not I have exercised the foregoing opportunity, I further understand and accept that each of the foregoing conditions, as well as the participants pose a danger to me. I know, fully appreciate, and understand the scope, nature and extent of the risks involved in bicycle touring. I understand that by attending I am releasing the “released parties” from any and all liability. Additionally I understand that I may be photographed or videotaped by private persons, news and/or other media and these photographs or videos may be used commercially and/or by other parties.

All riders are responsible for the mechanical functioning and safety of their own bikes. Helmets and brakes are required. Any issues resulting from mechanical issues with a riders bike is the sole responsibility of the owner/rider of that bike.

The event route has been made available ahead of the tour date and I acknowledge that had I chosen to do so, I could have preridden the course to identify any obstacles or obstructions. I understand that the route may change on the day of the ride and acknowledge and accept that alternate routes may be taken.
